2022 Preview

Kenner Discovery is still in its infancy as a varsity football program but let there be no doubt that this team plays like one.

Head coach P.J. Sprunk has been at the forefront of building the team from the ground up and walks into the 2022 season with an entire senior class that began as freshmen four years ago and helped shape the program.

With 16 returning starters, several of which are college prospects, the Swamp Owls look to make the transition from Class 3A to Class 4A an easy move up. On offense, Kenner returns seven starters including leading rusher Luke Geraci (861 yards, 5 TDs) and receiver Labyron Martin (764 yards, 9 TDs) but will look to junior Julian Caronna to take over the snaps under center.

On defense, the Swamp Owls only two starters from a year ago and are determined to flex their muscle in new territory this season. That effort will be anchored by three-time all-district selection DeShawn Clark as well as junior defensive back Cameron Gardener.

In non-district action, Kenner faces off against East Jefferson to open the season along with contests with Bonnabel, Grace King, Patrick F. Taylor and Sophie B. Wright.

With the move up to Class 4A, the Swamp Owls participate in a competitive district including a league opening contest at De La Salle (Oct.6), Booker T. Washington-NO (Oct. 14), McMain (Oct. 21), The Willow School (Oct. 28) and Riverdale (Nov. 5).
