2022 Preview

After losing a year of football due to damage sustained from Hurricane Laura, LaGrange entered the 2021 football season with a reenergized approach to getting back to normal but was instantly met with an eye-opening experience.

A very young roster mixed with a lack of inexperienced starters produced some growing pains for the Gators a year ago having gone winless in 10 games. However, Marrico Wilson, who enters his fifth season at the helm, remains hopeful that things begin to take a turn for the better this season with a ton of last year's young experience returning for an exciting slate.

Over 15 juniors who either started or played in a majority of last year's games return including nine offensive starters and six coming back on defense. With a few additional hurdles to clear, LaGrange will have to track down its identity early with several marquee matchups to start the season but a refueled and even more experienced Gator squad could pose problems for an already strong District 3-4.

On offense, senior quarterback Jason Wilson returns to lead the unit with 1,000-yard rusher Keshaun Doucet in tow and will play behind a more experience line led by Francis Turner and Cortlen Mitchell.

Defensively, the Gators lose five starters from last season but return defensive back Dedric LaSalle who is favored to captain the secondary while senior Isaiah Henry will be used as an anchor up front to stop opposing offenses.

In Week 1, LaGrange travels across Lake Charles to take on Barbe before making the trip up to northwest Louisiana for a contest with Haughton. The Gators finish out their non-district slate with games against Kaplan, St. Edmund's and North Vermilion.

DeRidder comes to town to begin league play in Week 6 as the Gators host four of their five district contest at home with their only road contest at Rayne. Leesville, Washington-Marion and Eunice all will make the trip to John J. Mims Stadium.
