2023 Preview

With 12 returning letterman from a very young team which went 1-9 a season ago, new head coach Josh Harper believes his Marksville Tigers will be much improved as they enter the 2023 campaign.
“My expectations are high,” said Harper, who has an overall head coaching record of 48-37 while at Sacred Heart of Ville Platte. “Although we are still young, we have some key seniors that will help lead this team. We had a great spring and it carried over into our summer workouts. Hopefully, it will continue into the fall.”
Overall, the Tigers have nine returning starters on the offensive side of the ball, with seven reprising their roles on defense.
Housed in District 2-3A with talented teams such as Jena and Bunkie, the Tigers will lean on running back Chris Bryant, the team’s leading returning rusher, and speedy wide receiver Eldrick Murray to help freshman quarterback Devin Lavalais find his bearings in the spread offense. Lavalais also has the great fortune of being protected by two massive linemen along the offensive front in seniors Demerion Dupas (6-2, 280) and Anthony Mose (6-3, 308).
Defensively, the Tigers have many players who spend time playing offense, such as Dupas, Mose and Murray. However, the team’s two leading tacklers from a season ago are just sophomores. Those sophomores, Jayce Warren and Travis Palmer, will quarterback the defense, which features both youth and senior leadership.
