2023 Preview

Off the heels of a narrow state championship game loss, North Desoto looks to reload in 2023 and return to New Orleans for a chance at redemption. Led by Head Coach Dennis Dunn in his 5th season with North Desoto, the Griffins have the tall task of replacing 85% of their offensive and defensive lines this upcoming season. Overall, North Desoto lost four players from last season to college football: Hunter Addison at Nicholls State, Brian Banks at Northwestern State, Saeveonne Jackson at Millikin University, and Marques Hampton at Louisiana Christian.

The Griffins return 9 total starters from last year’s team, highlighted by sophomore quarterback Luke Delafield and junior receiver Cole Cory. As a freshman, Delafield led a high-powered offense with over 2,500 passing yards and 38 touchdowns, earning offers from Northwestern State and UL Monroe. Cory was the most reliable wideout, finishing with over 1,000 receiving yards and reeling in 12 touchdowns. On defense, the Griffins are anchored by 6’3 senior linebacker Brian ‘BT’ McMillan coming off a season with 79 total tackles and 3.5 sacks. North Desoto’s ball-hawking defense was a vital key to their success as well, as seniors Corbyn Cross and Lake Bates came up with 7 and 5 interceptions respectively.

On the schedule, a week one showdown at Airline should be a classic shootout in Bossier and a week ten matchup at Northwood will see the Griffins attempting to avenge their only regular season loss from a season ago. Even though North Desoto will have to replace the majority of their starters on the interior, the Griffins should be expected to find their footing throughout the season and be right back in the state title conversation.
