2023 Preview
The Vikings will have a different look this season following the appointment of Jacarde Carter as head coach. Carter, who previously served as defensive coordinator at Northside after a two-year stint as head coach at LCA, will need to move quickly to find success in one of the state’s most talented districts.
Assisting Carter in his hunt for success will be junior RB Ja’Nathan Bonnet, who ran for 820 yards and 12 touchdowns from 180 carries last season. Senior receiver Cameron Gotch (276 yards, 0 TDs) will be the most-productive passing threat making a return for the 2023 season. Carter also returns most of last season’s offensive line, led by center Malachi Celestine at center.
The defensive line also sees the return of several veterans including JaBrian Jenkins and Malachi Frye alongside Keagan Dugas (44 tackles, 1 INT), Latrell Johnson (34 tackles) and Deontrell Clark in the Viking secondary. Senior Ke'Andre “KJ” Barfield played both tight end and outside linebacker for Northside in 2022, picking up an impressive array of stats including 34 tackles, one interception and one defensive touchdown.
The Vikings will look to pick up an early string of wins, facing off against Washington-Marrion, Cecilia and McKinley at home before traveling to Lafayette Christian to kick off DIstrict 4-4A play.
