2022 Preview
In his second year at the helm, Todd Garvin believes his team has the tools needed to win a district championship and contend for a state title in Louisiana's highest classification.
The Lions enjoyed a breakout campaign under Garvin in 2021, finishing with nine wins and a trip to the quarterfinals, the team's best finish since the 2012 season. Ouachita hopes to carry that momentum into the fall despite graduating 27 seniors, including all-state linebacker Carmycah Glass.
However, Garvin plans to stay the course on offense with hopes of replicating the success enjoyed under his first year with the return of receiver Chaunky Lewis and offensive linemen Derrick Perkins and Gavin Waters. Junior tailback Carldell Sirmons (688 yards, 11 TDs) returns in the backfield while Zach Jackson will start under center for the Lions.
On defense, six new starters will have to grow into their positions quickly with only four returning from 2021. Kristian Doyle, Kendrick Cooley and Chance Dora, who combined for 134 tackles and seven sacks, will anchor the line while newcomer Dylan Berymon has the looks to become a significant player early in the season.
The Lions will be tested early with a strong non-district slate including a season-opening trip to Hammond to meet up with Archbishop Rummel before heading to Conway, Arkansas in the third week of the season. Ouachita hosts Neville, Brother Martin and Ouachita Christian at home.
