2022 Preview

The Plain Dealing Lions football team is gearing up for the 2023 season with high hopes despite their challenging past. Last year's performance left much to be desired, finishing with a disappointing 0-10 overall record. However, under the leadership of Head Coach Clint Walker, who enters his second year at the helm, the team is determined to turn the tides and bring back the glory days.

With only two returning lettermen, the Lions are aware of the uphill battle they face. However, their spirits remain undeterred as they embrace the opportunity to rebuild and grow as a team. On the offensive side, they have three starters returning, providing some experience and continuity. The same goes for the defense, with three starters coming back to anchor the unit. Coach Walker acknowledges the challenges, but he commends the players' dedication as they diligently attend workouts and show improvement every day during the summer.

Size may be a concern for Plain Dealing, as it is one of the smallest schools in the state playing football. Yet, what the team lacks in numbers, they make up for in determination and heart. The Lions' recent struggles to attract players have been evident in their performance over the last decade, but the hiring of Coach Walker signifies a step toward stability and renewed interest in the program.

The 2023 season is seen as a continuation of the rebuilding process, and the team's primary focus will be on player development and teamwork. Despite the odds, the Lions are not to be underestimated, as they intend to show grit and resilience on the field. As Coach Walker instills a winning culture and works to attract more players, Plain Dealing is poised to rise once again and make strides towards reclaiming their spot among the state's competitive football programs.
