2022 Preview

After a strong 10-3 season a year ago, Ruston must do a little rebuilding but an experienced defense coupled with a JV team that went undefeated a year ago could help propel the Bearcats to another deep playoff run.

All-state linebacker Jadon Mayfield (96 tackles, 3 sacks) is one of the main leaders of Jerrod Baugh's 4-2-5 scheme. He will team with junior all-district linemen Geordan Guidry (64 tackles, 5.5 sacks) to help slow down some of the top defenses in the nation while newcomers Zheric Hill and Payton Bell are expected to contribute.

On a less experience offensive unit, all-state running back Dyson Field (2,234 yards, 30 TDs) returns to lead the offense along with senior quarterback Jaden Osborne (923 yards, 4 TDs passing). A depleted offensive line will be the main concern as the Bearcats must replace four starters from a year ago including all-state selection Micah Scheer. A wide receiver corps must develop experience quickly as well with a tough schedule ahead.

As usual, Baugh has constructed a hellish non-district slate in preparation for one of the state's most competitive leagues. The Bearcats host three consecutive games at Hoss Garrett Stadium to begin the year against Warren Easton, Jesuit and Cabot, Arkansas. They will then make the trip down to south Louisiana for a date with Lafayette Christian before returning home for a final pre-district tuneup against Neville.

In league play, Ruston travels to Alexandria, Pineville and Ouachita with two home contests scheduled against West Ouachita in Week 8 and West Monroe in Week 10.
