2022 Preview

Jesse Esters enters the 2022 high school football season with a clear vision in front of him.

He and his staff are changing the way they do business at Southwood High School in hopes to lead the Cowboys out of a decade-old slump and into a credible threat in Shreveport-Bossier's District 1-5A.

With over 78 players returning from last year's squad, Esters has plenty of weapons to work with including a veteran offense that returns 10 of its 11 starters from a year ago. Among those leaders include the top returning rusher, junior tailback Michael Morgan (21 att, 184 yards) while Dantonio Arkansas (610 yards, 6 TDs) returns to take the snaps again this season.

On defense, Southwood will have its work cut out for itself with having to replace five starters from 2021 but cornerbacks Corinthian Walters and Qorinthian Nickelson as well as linemen Melvin Coleman and Travail Hamilton will help to develop the young talent tasked with helping the Cowboys compete.

Southwood opens the season with Green Oaks followed by other non-district contest against Woodlawn of Shreveport and Carroll before starting district play against Natchitoches Central in Week 4. The Cowboys will host Parkway, Benton and C.E. Byrd in district contests while traveling to play Haughton, Captain Shreve and Airline.
