2022 Preview

In his second season at the helm, St. John head coach Coby Minton looks for his team to have a better showing than in previous seasons with the goal of snapping a six-year postseason drought.

The Eagles return 14 total starters from a year ago but will have to battle through some experience issues at certain positions on the field. If they are able to work out the kinks early, there is a chance you could see St. John in the middle of a district title battle at season's end.

Minton's team will be inexperienced several skill positions on offense and will need some younger guys to step in and have and make an immediate impact. The Eagles do return several linemen who will help in the trenches while most of the backfield returns for another season and will be leaned on by the rest of the unit.

Defensively, St. John returns a lot of experience up front and at linebacker. If the defensive group can remain healthy, the Eagles will have the opportunity to be a solid defensive group under the leadership of new coordinator Mark Millet.

St. John's non-district slate includes home games against Central Private and West St. Mary while making trips to Hanson Memorial, Highland Baptist and Houma Christian. In league play, the Eagles face defending district champion Ascension Catholic on Oct. 6 on the road with another big matchup at home against White Castle a couple of weeks later.
