The Louisiana High School Coaches Association has announced the hiring of Jessica Barber as its new director.
A Franklinton native, Barber brings nearly 20 years of coaching experience at the high school, AAU, and collegiate levels. She most recently served as an assistant coach for the University of Southern Mississippi, where she played a major role in recruiting Louisiana talent and mentoring student-athletes. Her career also includes stints at ULM, Loyola University New Orleans, and Edna Karr, where she led the program to four straight district titles and two semifinal appearances.
“This is a role that requires the right fit- someone who can serve as a bridge between our high school coaches and the broader LHSAA community,” said LHSCA President Christopher Kovatch in a release from the association. “Jessica checks all the boxes.”
Barber’s resume includes multiple coaching honors, including three District Coach of the Year awards and the New Orleans Pelicans Louisiana High School Coach of the Year. She has also had a long-standing impact in AAU basketball through her work with the New Orleans Dominos.
As a player, Barber starred at the University of Mobile, earning First-Team All-Conference honors and finishing as the program’s all-time leader in assists.
“It’s Louisiana. It’s home,” Barber said in a release from the LHSAA. “No matter where I’ve been, I’ve always loved this state and took pride in recruiting Louisiana. That connection has always been important to me.”
Barber is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Sport Administration and is a member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
