Forfeit Fallout

A handful of forfeits impacted the Week 8 slate across Louisiana. Frederick A. Douglass was awarded a forfeit win over Abramson following an LHSAA suspension. Highland Baptist also forfeited its matchup with Ascension Episcopal, citing concerns for the health and well-being of its student-athletes. Crescent City and Gueydan were both unable to field enough players, resulting in forfeit victories for Varnado and Westminster Christian (Lafayette.)

Tackle This

LSU commit Brysten Martinez, the No. 9 offensive tackle in the nation according to On3, isn’t just a force in the trenches, he’s showing off serious athleticism for East Ascension. Last week, he was taking direct snaps and throwing touchdowns; this week, he’s catching them.

One-of-a-Kick

Live Oak’s Matthew Landry drilled a 35-yard field goal – but not the kind you’re thinking of. This was a free kick, a rare sight in high school football, and it was the first successful free kick in Live Oak program history.
