Team roster
West Ouachita brings back over half of its starters from a year ago with a goal of competing for the coveted District 2-5A title up in northeast Louisiana.
In his second year at the helm, Mike Rainwater reshuffled his coaching staff, bringing in two veteran coaches to take over the reins on each side of the ball. Former West Monroe assistant Glen Hunt takes over the playcalling duties for the Chiefs while Robert Hannah comes from River Oaks to take over the defense.
Offensively, Hunt will have seven starters returning from last season but must focus on the quarterback position as sophomore Sam Ozark is expected to take a large portion of the reps heading into the season. Junior Antonio Ford is the top returning rusher on the 2022 squad with 309 yards on the ground along with a touchdown while Seth Clampit caught 23 passes for a touchdown.
On defense, only four starters won't return this season. However, a trio of experienced tacklers returns in seniors Raylynn Hofler, Jaylin Holland and Michael Noland.
The Chiefs have put together a competitive schedule for the 2022 season with marquee non-league matchups against Jonesboro-Hodge (Sept. 9) and North Caddo (Sept. 30) as well as district contests at home against West Monroe and Pineville with road trips to Ouachita Parish, Ruston and Alexandria.
