2023 Preview
by Matthew Louviere
Jim Stomps and the Westminster Chargers are entering the 2023 season with a lot of positives.
After making the jump from eight-man football to the LHSAA in 2022, Stomps has continued to keep both expectations and standards high for the Chargers. After leading Westminster to a 7-2 record in 2022, Stomps is returning 15 experienced players to his roster including juniors Brock Stomps (1946 passing yards, 26 TDs), receiver David Beazley (191 yards, 2 TDs) and linebacker Jackson Davis (55 tackles).
The Chargers will only field one returning senior this year, but Stomps said that his junior class has plenty of gametime under their belts having played varsity minutes since their freshman season. With one final year of pre-district play ahead of them, the Chargers had the freedom to select their opponents for all ten weeks.
That doesn't mean that Stomps and his staff will be looking to duck anyone, however, as Westminster-Lafayette has amassed a difficult schedule meant to prepare the team for a district title and a deep postseason run next year.
