2023 All-GeauxPreps Small School Football Team Announced

LAKE CHARLES — The 2023 All-GeauxPreps Small School Football Team, presented in partnership with Chevyland of Shreveport, is headlined by student-athletes from 15 different schools who transcended two of the state’s lower classifications and level of play.
The small school team, representing both Non-Select and Select designations, is comprised of student-athletes from Class 1A and Class 2A who best represented high school football in Louisiana.
Calvary Baptist junior quarterback Abram Wardell took home Offensive MVP honors after a near perfect season having completed 78% of his passes for 3,883 yards while tossing 45 touchdowns and just two interceptions.
On defense, St. Charles’ Kyle Cannon took home MVP honors following a spectacular junior season in which he tallied 133 total tackles, 15.5 for loss while delivering 9.5 sacks, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks, two safeties and two interception returns for touchdown.
Calvary Baptist led with five selections on this year’s team highlighted by Wardell who is joined on the team by wide receiver Aubrey Hermes, offensive lineman Jimmy Wright, linebacker Hutch Grace and defensive back Landon Sylvie.
Ouachita Christian had four players named to the All-GeauxPreps team while Ascension Catholic, Haynesville, Many, Oak Grove, Southern Lab, St. Charles & St. Mary’s all placed two selections on the team.

Offensive MVP: Abram Wardell, Calvary Baptist – The junior Cavalier was near perfect in his offensive attack having completed 266-of-340 passes (78%) for 3,883 yards while tossing 45 touchdowns and just two interceptions (22.5 TD/INT ratio) for a QB rating of 151.4. Wardell finished 2nd in the state in passing yards and helped lead Calvary to a victory in the Select Division III state title game.

Defensive MVP: Kyle Cannon, St. Charles – The Southeastern Louisiana commitment earned LSWA all-state honors as well as All-GeauxPreps honors with 133 total tackles, 15.5 for loss while delivering 9.5 sacks, five interceptions, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two blocked kicks, two safeties and two interception returns for touchdown. Cannon helped lead the Comets to a third consecutive state title appearance in 2023 and even recorded 19 tackles in a semifinal win against University Lab.
