Airline’s Taylor, Opelousas’ Amos Grab Player of the Week Honors

This week’s GeauxPreps Football Players of the Week honors are presented by Chevyland.com and awarded to two deserving student-athletes who served as game changers for their respective schools.

Offense: Ben Taylor, Airline – QB – Junior

In a thrilling high school football showdown, Airline High School’s junior quarterback, Ben Taylor, stood out as the Offensive Player of the Week. Taylor continued his exceptional form for a second consecutive week, leading the Vikings to a hard-fought 48-44 victory over a tough Union Parish team on the road. The uncommitted athlete put on a masterclass, throwing for a staggering 422 yards and six touchdowns, showcasing his precision with a remarkable 73% completion rate. Taylor’s performance was instrumental in securing the win and solidifying his reputation as one of the region’s premier junior quarterbacks.

Defense: Corey Amos, Opelousas High School – LB – Junior

The Defensive Player of the Week title goes to Opelousas High School’s standout linebacker, Corey Amos, who played a pivotal role in his team’s 40-28 victory over Class 5A Natchitoches Central. Amos, a highly sought-after 2025 recruit, displayed his dominance on the defensive side of the ball with an outstanding performance. In the game, he tallied a remarkable 12 tackles, with six of them resulting in tackles for a loss. Amos relentlessly penetrated the Chiefs’ offensive line, sacking the quarterback on four occasions, effectively disrupting the opposing team’s rhythm. To cap off his incredible performance, the Opelousas junior student-athlete also recovered a crucial fumble, sealing the victory and highlighting his potential as a defensive force to be reckoned with.
