Anacoco’s Dustin Welch Named Boy’s Basketball Player of the Week

Basketball honors are nominated by the school’s head coach. To nominate a student-athlete, the head coach may submit statistics, team win-loss records and other supporting information to by 10AM each Tuesday.

Boys’s Player of the Week: Dustin Welch, Shooting Guard, Senior, Anacoco

Stat Line (Jan. 2-6): 17.6 PPG, 9.0 RBG, 1.6 APG, 1.6 BPG, 2.6 SPG

Dustin Welch from Anacoco High School has earned the Boys Basketball Player of the Week, presented by Visit Lake Charles. This recognition follows his standout performance during the week of January 2-6, notably at the Mickey Goins Classic Tournament.

Anacoco fell to Division II foe Leesville High School, 39-36, early in the week but rebounded with a pair of victories in the highly competitive Mickey Goins Classic with victories over the Wampus Cats, 56-32, and South Beauregard, 48-30.

Welch’s contributions earned him a spot on the “Mickey Goins All Classic Team” and the title of Classic MVP. His weekly stats reflect an impressive all-around game: 17.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 2.6 steals per game.

With Anacoco at 23-6 and ranked #3 in Non-Select Division V, Welch’s performances contribute to the team’s pursuit of redemption after being the 2023 Division V State Runner-up.
