Barbe Baseball Crowned 2021 MaxPreps National Champions

For the second time in its illustrious history, the Barbe High School baseball team will celebrate a National Championship season.
The Buccaneers, who were named National Champions in 2014, finished No. 1 in the final MaxPreps Top 25 rankings following a 39-2 campaign that eventually led to the school’s 11th state baseball title. For their efforts on the field, three Bucs were named to the LSWA Class 5A All-State team while head coach Glenn Checchini was named Coach of the Year.
In the playoffs, Barbe tossed four shutouts and allowed just five runs in seven games. Barbe also won one of the games on a no-hitter. The Bucs were 6-1 against teams ranked among the top seven in the state and 5-1 against teams ranked in the MaxPreps top 100 national computer rankings.
Barbe also has history on its side. All 11 of the Buccaneers’ state championships have come since 1998 with six of them occurring since 2012. Over the past nine full seasons (not counting 2020), Barbe has an average won-loss record of 34-5.
