Acadiana

Acadiana (5-3) at Carencro (7-1)

When, where: 7 p.m., Thursday, The Cro Dome, 721 W Butcher Switch Rd, Lafayette

Last week: Acadiana lost to Southside, 22-7; Carencro beat Sam Houston, 72-55

Last meeting: Acadiana beat Carencro, 9-7 (2021)

Facts: This is for all the marbles! Acadiana has ruled District 3-5A over the last few years but a new challenger will have its shot at the crown as new league member Carencro plays host on Thursday night. Although Acadiana has taken four of the last five meetings with the Bears there is much more at stake with a district title on the line as well as an automatic berth into the postseason.

Capital Area

Dutchtown (5-2) at Denham Springs (6-2)

When, where: 7 p.m., Thursday; Yellow Jacket Stadium, 100 N Range Ave, Denham Springs

Last week: Dutchtown beat St. Amant, 42-0; Denham Springs lost to East Ascension, 17-7

Last meeting: Denham Springs beat Dutchtown, 27-7 (2006)

Facts: Dutchtown has been dominant on the field in the second half of the regular season with shutout victories in its last three outings. However, much more remains on the line as the Griffins look to remain in content for a district championship. However, the road to district honors runs through Denham Springs as the Yellow Jackets look to play spoiler in their attempt at creating a three-way tie. It has been several years since these two programs met on the field with Denham Springs having the upper hand back in 2006. Will Dutchtown be able to post its four straight shutouts to set up a district title game with East Ascension?

Central Louisiana

No. 10 Rosepine (7-1) at Avoyelles (5-3)

When, where: 7 p.m., Thursday, Avoyelles Stadium, 287 Main St, Moreauville

Last week: Rosepine beat Menard, 48-2; Avoyelles lost to Southern Lab, 35-14

Last meeting: Rosepine beat Avoyelles, 27-0 (2007)

Facts: For the first time in program history, Avoyelles as a shot to take home its first district championship. It has been a long road for head coach Andy Boone and his Mustang squad as they have continued to improve over the last few seasons with the help of multiple 1,000-yard rushers including Decareyean Sampson who stands as one of the state’s leaders in yards on the ground. However, Avoyelles has a tough task to get there as Rosepine makes its way to Moreauville as the Eagles have been major playoff contenders recently. Avoyelles has had its mettle tested and should be ready for a long postseason run but a district title could make the run just a bit sweeter.

Greater New Orleans & Northshore

No. 5/6 John Curtis (7-1) vs. Brother Martin (5-3)

When, where: 7 p.m., Friday, Yulman Stadium, 2900 Ben Weiner Dr, New Orleans

Last week: John Curtis beat St. Augustine, 28-21; Brother Martin lost to Archbishop Rummel, 3-0

Last meeting: Brother Martin beat John Curtis; 41-12

Facts: John Curtis is on a mission. The Patriots are looking for their first state title since 2018 as they have been in a rebuilding process over in River Ridge. With a potential district title showdown with Edna Karr looming, Curtis must keep its focus on a team that has taken wins in the series over the last two seasons. Although, Brother Martin has struggled in the win column as of late, don’t let the Crusaders fool you. A tough schedule resembling that of Curtis’ can help a squad such as Brother Martin know what it needs to do in preparation of a huge “Catholic League” matchup.

Northeast Louisiana

Richwood (5-3) at No. 7/8 Carroll (7-0)

When, where: 7 p.m., Friday, Carroll Stadium, 2939 Renwick St, Monroe

Last week: Richwood lost to Union Parish, 21-20; Carroll beat Franklin Parish, 29-8

Last meeting: Carroll beat Richwood, 44-14 (2021)

Facts: Don’t let the record fool you. Richwood’s improvement each week is very visible as two of its three losses have occurred by one point as well as its defense holding opponents to eight points or less in half of its games. The biggest test comes on the road as the Rams travel to undefeated Carroll for a showdown with one of the state’s remaining undefeated programs. The Bulldogs have enjoyed a fruitful season thus far and are hoping to keep the momentum heading into a potential district title bout with Union Parish next week. Carroll’s defense has been solid as well holding Class 4A foe Franklin Parish to just eight points. This should be a slobberknocker at its finest!

Northwest Louisiana

No. 6/3 Homer (6-2) at No. 7/8 Glenbrook (8-0)

When, where: 7 p.m., Thursday, Apache Stadium, 1674 Country Club Cir, Minden

Last week: Homer beat Arcadia, 43-6; Glenbrook beat Plain Dealing, 48-16

Last meeting: Homer beat Glenbrook, 36-21 (2021)

Facts: What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object? High school fans across northwest Louisiana will get the chance to witness on Thursday as defending Class 1A champion Homer travels to Minden for a 1-1A showdown with undefeated Glenbrook. The Pelicans are looking for another solid win to help boost their power rating in search of another title while the Apaches hope to keep the state’s longest current win streak intact. With Ty Feaster guiding an explosive offense that averages nearly 47 points per game, Glenbrook will have to play nearly perfect against a stout Homer defense that has given up just 24 points in its last five games. The Pelicans have not allowed a team to score double-digits since a 49-24 win over General Trass on Sept. 16. Throw out the records and the predictions on this game!

South Central

No. 3/1 Destrehan (8-0) at No. 9 East St. John (8-0)

When, where: 7 p.m., Friday, Joe Keller Stadium, 400 Ory Dr, LaPlace

Last week: Destrehan beat Sulphur, 49-10; East St. John beat Terrebonne, 35-12

Last meeting: Destrehan beat East St. John, 38-7 (2021)

Facts: In the only game in which two undefeated teams will battle this week, Destrehan travels to LaPlace for what will be a District 7-5A championship bout with East St. John. Both communities have stated their case as to which team is better than the other. After the dust settles on Friday, the state will know in which team climbed to the top of the mountain of this league and thus could be a major player come playoff time. Destrehan won four of the last five contests in this series but don’t count out East St. John which is off to one of its best starts in a decade. Lace those cleats up tight and get ready for a battle!

Southwest Louisiana

No. 6/5 Iowa (7-1) at St. Louis Catholic (7-1)

When, where: 7 p.m., Friday, Matt Walker Stadium, 100 Sycamore St, Sulphur

Last week: Iowa beat Lake Charles Prep, 17-16; St. Louis Catholic beat South Lafourche, 38-6

Last meeting: Iowa beat St. Louis Catholic, 47-21 (2021)

Facts: St. Louis Catholic finds itself just a win away from its first outright district title since 2015. The Saints have rolled in the latter part of the regular season with convincing wins over Westlake and Lake Charles Prep as well as a non-district bout against Class 4A South Lafourche. Iowa has won three of the last five contests against St. Louis including last year’s 47-21 victory in Sulphur.
