LHSAA Crowns Five Girls’ Powerlifting Champions On Second Day Of State Meet

MONROE – It was a full but exciting day of championship memories as the LHSAA crowned five girls champions on the second day of its state powerlifting meet Friday.

The highlight of Friday’s all-girls meet was Lutcher’s victory in Division III which gave the Lady Bulldogs their 14th consecutive state title since 2007. Eight top two individual performances helped Lutcher compile a dominating 58 team points while state runner-up Abbeville finished with 36.

Quamecca Stafford and Shay Naquin were essential in helping the Bulldogs make history as both were awarded Most Outstanding Lifter in their respective weight classes.

In Division I, Slidell took home its first state title since 2002, finishing in the top three in six of their nine events.

The Lady Tigers edged defending champion Pineville, 36-33, for the state’s highest divisional championship. Jaylan Bickham, the 114 wight class’ state champion, was named the division’s Outstanding Lifter in the light division with a 970.36 composite score.

Zachary’s Jayden Jackson was awarded the Outstanding Lifter award in the heavyweight class with a 981.78 score.

The Tioga squad brought home its third state title in school history Friday and first since 2017 when it defeated Leesville, 52-31, for Division II’s top spot. The Lady Indians sported four state champions including Erica Jones, who was awarded the division’s Outstanding Lifter award for the light class.

South Terrebonne’s Emma Broussard earned the lifting award with a 794.21 score in the heavyweight division.

In Division IV, Port Allen took home its third consecutive title and eighth total after finishing with 57 points on the day while Pope John Paull II finished runner-up with 45 points.

Alexiz Alford was the Most Outstanding Lifter in the 165 to SHW class for the Pelicans while Savannah Burke took home the award for Northlake Christian in the lightweight class.

One point separated champion and runner-up in Division V as Calvary Baptist edged Cedar Creek by one point to capture the title. The Cavaliers captured their first state title in program history after having finished with seven individual championships on the day.

Calvarys Aubrey Mayo took home the Most Outstanding Lifter award for the lightweight class while Holden’s Kayla Davis was awarded for her efforts in the heavyweight class.
