LHSAA State Tennis Tournament Continues Tuesday; Monday Results Posted

MONROE – The LHSAA State Tennis Tournament kicked off Monday with Divisions I & II competing for championship honors on the campus of ULM in Monroe.

In Division I, St. Paul’s compiled 12 points in both singles and doubles competition on the boys’ side as Brody Sawyer used three shutout wins to advance to today’s semifinals where he will compete against Lafayette’s Evan Patton. Grisham Hall added another point for the Wolves before being eliminated in the second round.

In doubles, the teams of Caeden Bayle and William Gustafson and Reece Beckndorf and Kieffer Schwartz added to St. Paul’s collection as the two will face off against each other for an opportunity at a spot in the Division I finals.

St. Joseph’s Academy collected 12 points in the Division I girls group Monday with C.E. Byrd and Mt. Carmel trailing close behind with nine points apiece. Laura Holliday and Ella Mancuso will compete in the semifinals of the singles division while the team of Caroline Pousson and Madelyn Buttross compete for the doubles championship against C.E. Byrd’s Morgan and Sydeny Young.

In Division II boys, Neville (14 pts) and St. Thomas More (10) are set to battle it out for championship honors on Tuesday. The two squads will face each other in both the singles and doubles finals after dominating yesterday’s events.

The Willow School was impressive in Division II girls play with two singles players and two doubles teams advancing into the semifinals as the Bulldogs lead the overall team scores with 13 points while Neville stays close with 11 points.

Action continues Tuesday for Divisions I and II while Divisions III and IV are set to compete Thursday and Friday.
