St. Louis Catholic Boys Golf Takes Division II Region I Title; Advance To State Championships

ALEXANDRIA – St. Louis Catholic punched its ticket to the LHSAA Boys Golf State Championship Tournament Monday as the Saints used a 25-stroke advantage to take the Division II – Region I title at Oakwing Golf Course.

With a total team score of 293, St. Louis was led by seniors Ross Anderson (72) and George Trappey (72) who tied for the lead with a pair of even pars. The Saints were aided by freshman Kye Hanks’ (74) sixth-place finish while sophomore Samual Broussard (75) tied for seventh and junior Cameron Langley (77) tied for ninth.

The team will compete for state honors May 1-2 at The Wetlands Golf Course in Lafayette where they look to clinch their first team title since the 2021 season.

Westlake’s Collin Jones (73), Jennings’ Jacque Person (77), Sterlington’s Alex Henagan (80), and Minden’s Jackson McCormick (82) shot the top four scores outside of qualifying teams and will be in the field of individual competitors at the state tournament while St. Thomas More (318), Teurlings Catholic (330) and DeRidder (354) completed the top four spots and advance to next month’s championships.

In other regional news from around the state, Loyola Prep boys took home the Division III-Region I title with a 293 score, 62 strokes better than second-place Notre Dame while C.E. Byrd nabbed the Division I-Region I title with a total score of 297.
