In a triumphant season filled with perseverance and success, Riverside Academy’s head football coach, Lee Roussel, has been named the GeauxPreps.com Class 1A Football Coach of the Year, presented by Chevyland.com.

Under Roussel’s masterful guidance, the Rebels achieved remarkable milestones, reaching their first championship appearance in over seven years. Seizing the District 10-1A crown secured the No. 5 seed, propelling Riverside to a stellar 12-2 record by season’s end. The team’s journey included an impressive 11 consecutive victories, with key road triumphs over the No. 4 and No. 1 seeds.

Roussel’s impact extended to the defensive prowess of the Rebels, who pitched an outstanding four shutouts and limited opponents to 12 points or less in eight of their 14 games. This defensive excellence underscored Roussel’s commitment to a well-rounded and disciplined team.

In only his second year at the helm, Roussel steered the Rebels into esteemed company, alongside St. James and St. Charles as three River Parish schools vying for a state title in this year’s Prep Classic. A seasoned leader, Roussel’s championship pedigree is not confined to Riverside Academy; prior to his tenure, he played a pivotal role in Nicholls State’s capture of two Southland Conference titles in 2018 and 2019.
