Select/Non-Select Appeals, Playoff Restructuring Talks Take Center Stage At LHSAA Executive Committee Meeting

The LHSAA will gather once again Wednesday and Thursday as its executive committee prepares to hear a series of appeals from schools and/or school districts that were redesignated as Select schools in an effort to equal the playing field.
During the June meetings, the executive committee voted, 16-5, to approve the redefining of what shall be considered a Select school per bylaw 4.4.4, which calls for the promotion of fair play among LHSAA member schools.
With the new definition approved, any members deemed to be lab schools, magnet schools, schools with magnet components, charter schools, parishes that allow open enrollment at all its public schools and tuition-based schools in the definition fell under the Select category beginning this fall.
The committee will listen to 18 different appeals from school district leaders as they make their case for their represented schools to be moved back into the Non-Select playoff groups. The appeals will be heard in a closed session.
In addition to the designation appeals, the executive committee is scheduled to hear recommendations from LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine regarding changes to postseason brackets as well as classifications and divisions
