Southwood’s Jeremiah Evans Named Boy’s Basketball Player of the Week (Jan. 22-27)

Boys’s Player of the Week: Jeremiah Evans, Senior, Center, Southwood
Stat Line (Jan. 15-20): 30.0 PPG, 15.0 RBG, 3.0 APG, 6.0 BPG, 1.0 SPG
In a week filled with intense matchups and stellar performances, Southwood senior standout Jeremiah Evans has emerged as the GeauxPreps.com Boys Basketball Player of the Week, a recognition presented by Visit Lake Charles. Evans’ exceptional display of skill, leadership, and determination on the court played a pivotal role in guiding the Cowboys to an unblemished 3-0 record against formidable district opponents.
Evans, a seasoned senior, showcased his scoring prowess by averaging an impressive 30 points per game over the three contests. However, his impact wasn’t limited to just putting points on the board. The Southwood star also demonstrated his dominance in the paint, securing an average of 15 rebounds per game, a testament to his tenacity on the boards.
The highlight of the week undoubtedly occurred in a high-stakes showdown against the No. 2 ranked Natchitoches Central. In a performance that will be remembered for years to come, Evans left an indelible mark on the game, recording an outstanding stat line of 30 points, 16 rebounds, and an astounding seven blocks. His exceptional two-way play proved instrumental in Southwood’s triumph over the top-ranked Chiefs.
Southwood’s perfect week, propelled by Evans’ stellar contributions, has further solidified their position as a force to be reckoned with in the district. With a now-impressive record of 18-6 on the season, including an undefeated 7-0 mark in district play, the Cowboys are making a strong case for themselves in the Select Division I rankings, currently holding a coveted top-ten spot.
