The Extra Point: A Night Of Broken Records & Memorable Milestones

Haynesville’s David Franklin Joins The 200-Win Club

Haynesville’s David Franklin etched his name into the history books following Friday’s district victory over Plain Dealing as he became the 57th coach in Louisiana prep football history to win 200 games in his career.

In 21 seasons at the helm of the legendary program, Franklin has led the Golden Tornado to three state championship victories, a dozen 10-win campaigns and 15 district titles.

Franklin joins his father, Alton “Red” Franklin, as the only father-son duo to win 200 or more games in the history of high school football in Louisiana.

Arch Manning Passes Peyton & Eli In Newman Record Book

Arch Manning proved once again why he has earned the distinction of being the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2023 on Friday as he passed uncles Peyton and Eli Manning in the Newman football record books.

In a 52-22 victory over Pearl River, Manning rewrote the record books with a 326-yard and seven touchdown performance setting the school’s all-time mark for passing yards (7,484) previously held by Eli and career touchdowns (100) that was held by Peyton.

Manning committed to the University of Texas before the start of the 2022 season.

Benton Offense Turns In Madden-Like Numbers In Milestone Win Over Byrd

Benton made history Friday night with its 63-28 defeat over District 1-5A rival C.E. Byrd, the program’s first since joining the largest classification in 2019.

That wasn’t even the highlight of the evening. Senior quarterback Gray Walters launched an all-out assault with one of the best performances of his career with 516 passing yards on 22 completions along with eight touchdowns. Three of Walters’ touchdowns came on 60+ yard receptions.

Pearce Russell gave an outstanding performance with 12 catches for 267 yards and four touchdowns while tailback Greg Manning accounted for 123 yards on the ground coupled with a touchdown reception.

The Tigers have averaged 58 points over their last three games and totaled 243 points so far this season.
