To The House! Merryville Student-Athlete With Special Needs Encourages Entire Community With Touchdown Run

Merryville head football coach Bart Coody made a young man’s dream come true during Friday night’s contest against Gueydan.

Clayton McGee, a 16-year old special needs student, earned the opportunity of a lifetime when his number was called upon to enter the game at tailback. Coach Coody called in the play and what happened next changed the youngster’s life forever.

On the next play, the quarterback handed the ball off to Clayton who rushed right up the middle, cheered on by players from both sides as well as the crowd, and scored a touchdown for the Panthers.

His expression following the play told all as he was embraced with smiles, cheers, and encouragement.

Clayton, we are so proud of you! Congrats on your touchdown run and we hope you score many more in the future!

West Monroe District Win Streak Reaches 100

With a 25-0 shutout win over West Ouachita on Friday night, the West Monroe Rebels nabbed their 100th consecutive district victory.

The last district loss for the Rebels came in 2002 against C.E. Byrd. Head coach Jerry Arledge is now 39-0 against district opponents.

L.B. Landry’s Darius Green Kicks 53-Yard Field Goal

The Bucs are fortunate to have such a talented student-athlete to lead its special teams unit each Friday night.

Darius Green did not disappoint in a 25-0 win over Glen Oaks where he was 2 of 2 on point-after attempts, three kickoffs resulting in a touchback and one punt landed inside the 20.

However, what was most impressive was his three field goals converted during the game, highlighted by a 53-yard conversion from the middle of the field. Green also kicked and made a 38-yard and 45-yard field goal during the game.
