LAKE CHARLES – Although not many changes were made towards the top of the GeauxPreps.com Prep Football Rankings Powered by The Tim Fletcher Show, some pivotal matchups this next week pose a threat to the teams that are listed in those spots.

Acadiana (Class 5A), Edna Karr (Class 4A), De La Salle (Class 3A), Lafayette Christian (Class 2A) and Oak Grove (Class 1A) all held on to the top spot in their respective classes following impressive victories over the weekend. De La Salle and Lafayette Christian were the only teams to score victories last Friday while the rest did not play due to cancellations.

In Louisiana’s top classification, Zachary took the biggest tumble fall from the second spot to No. 9 following a 13-12 loss to No. 7 Scotlandville on Saturday. Destrehan entered the Top 10 after improving to 5-1 on the year.

No. 3 John Curtis faces a huge showdown this week when it travels to take on No. 5 Rummel in a Catholic League special. The Patriots look to avenge a 21-20 loss to Rummel from last season. The two squads are scheduled to play Saturday at 7PM.

Class 4A will showcase the biggest game in the state on Friday as the No.1 St. Thomas More Cougars take on the No. 2-ranked Carencro Bears. This contest is sure to have huge implications in both the GeauxPreps.com Prep Football poll as well as the state’s football power ratings. St. Thomas More is vying for the top spot in the Division II power ratings while Carencro looks to hold the top spot in Class 4A.

Edna Karr is not far behind as it sits No. 3 in the GeauxPreps.com football polls and is also No. 2 in the Class 4A power ratings. In other Class 4A action, No. 7 Neville is set to do battle with Bastrop, who is receiving votes in this week’s poll. Northwood-SH is also set to face off against Leesville.

Class 3A continues to impress and possibly could have the most talented squads across the Bayou State. No. 2 Jennings and No. 4 Lake Charles Prep look to get back into action after missing last weekend while No. 3 University Lab faces off against West Feliciana in district action. Union Parish, ranked fifth, takes on a talented Carrol squad while No. 6 Madison Prep plays Parkview Baptist on the road.

In Class 2A, Ferriday’s 19-game winning streak was broken as the Trojans fell to Mangham over the weekend. The defeat dropped Ferriday to No. 9 in the poll. A St. Charles loss to Newman also dropped the Comets deep into the poll at No. 8.

Lafayette Christian, the No. 1 squad in Class 2A, takes on Rayne at home this Friday while No. 2 Many steps out of district play to face Loyola Prep in Shreveport.

Not much changed in Class 1A as most teams were off due to cancellations across the state. One of the highlights of last weekend was St. Mary’s upset of Logansport in the final minutes of Friday night’s game. St. Mary’s scored 15 points in the last 17 seconds to upend Logansport, who dropped to 10th in the poll.
