Academy of Our Lady’s Bates, Barbe’s Pappion Named Softball Players of the Week

LAKE CHARLES – Academy of Our Lady’s CaTerra Bates and Barbe’s Halie Pappion have been named the GeauxPreps.com/LSCA Players of the Week for games played March 15-20.
The GeauxPreps.com/LSCA Players of the Week awards are announced each Monday following the collection of nominations from Louisiana Softball Coaches Association head coaching members. A hitter and a pitcher are selected from the list of nominees by a selection committee.

Player of the Week
CaTerra Bates, Academy of Our Lady
Bates received weekly honors following a perfect week at the plate that included 7 hits, five of which were extra base efforts, seven RBIs and a 2.000 slugging percentage for a 1.000 batting average. Her five extra-base hits included four doubles and a home run that helped lead her team to double-digit victories against Edna Karr and New Orleans Military and Maritime.
Pitcher of the Week
Halie Pappion, Barbe
Pappion was remarkable within the circle as she helped the Lady Bucs to a perfect 5-0 record on the week. In her four appearances, she gave up only three earned runs in 23 innings of work while having struck out 40 batters and giving up just four walks for a 1.17 ERA. She gave up one earned run and struck out 12 in Barbe’s district game against Sulphur to start out the week. In the Pineville tournament during the weekend, she perfected her record with a strong showing against No. 3 West Monroe with only two earned runs allowed in seven innings. Pappion’s one-hitter against North DeSoto highlighted the weekend while she struck out 15 batters in the process. She came into the circle for the last three innings of the Pineville contest and sat down seven batters while allowing no runs to pick up the win in relief.
