Four Teams Celebrate Title Wins On Final Day of LHSAA Girls Basketball Championships

HAMMOND – On the final day of the LHSAA Non-Select Girls Basketball Championships, four teams closed out the weekend with impressive state title victories on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana.

GAME ONE: ELLENDER 50, WARREN EASTON 44

Ellender brought home its sixth state basketball title Saturday afternoon following a 50-44 victory over Warren Easton in the Class 4A State Championship game.

The Lady Patriots finished the season with a 20-11 overall record while runner-up Warren Easton fell to 20-9.

Laijah Rockward led the scoring effort for Ellender with 13 points and 10 rebounds while Jamia Singleton and Toni Robinson also added double-digit scoring efforts.

Easton was led by Ta’Jae Wills and Imani Rothschild who each scored 14 points. Rothschild added eight rebounds and four assists to her scoresheet.

GAME TWO: AMITE 64, RAYVILLE 44

For the first time since 2001, Amite can itself a champion.

The Lady Warriors took care of Rayville in a 64-44 effort to claim the Class 2A State Championship Saturday.

Hai’ley Brumfield led the scoring effort for Amite along with eight rebounds and three assists. Jalencia Pierre added 19 points to the final score while A’yana Weber finished with 10 points.

For Rayville, Amari West and Nakaii Webb each scored 13 points for the Lady Hornets.

Amite took a commanding lead at halftime with a 40-17 score and were able to add to the lead down the final stretch in order to take home the gold.

GAME THREE: WOSSMAN 57, MADISON PREP 40

Wossman had many reasons to celebrate Saturday night after defeating Madison Prep, 57-40, for the Class 3A state title.

The Lady Wildcats took home their second championship in school history and first since 1994. Danaya Ross was named the Most Outstanding Player following her exceptional performance for Wossman to and help close out the season with a title win.

GAME FOUR: PONCHATOULA 80, PARKWAY 79 (2OT)

In a game that lived up to its billing, Ponchatoula captured the program’s second state championship following a double-overtime win against Parkway Saturday in front of a packed University Center in Hammond.

The Lady Green Wave was led by Most Oustanding Player selection Jaylee Womack who took the final shot that sealed the victory.
