In the world of high school football, the excitement never wanes, and Week 1 of gridiron action was no exception.

After a thrilling season opener, the Week 2 GeauxPreps High School Football Polls presented by Chevyland.com revealed some intriguing developments. Here’s a closer look at the latest rankings and notable happenings.

St. Charles Catholic Holds Firm at No. 1 St. Charles Catholic kicked off the season with a statement win against a formidable Shaw team, securing their spot as the No. 1 team in the rankings. In a hard-fought battle, the Comets emerged victorious with a final score of 17-10. Their tenacity and determination earned them a well-deserved spot atop the rankings, and they’re a team to watch as the season unfolds.

Lafayette Dominance in Class 4A In Class 4A, Lafayette reigned supreme as St. Thomas More and Lafayette Christian maintained their stronghold on the top two spots. Both teams showcased their prowess on the gridiron with convincing victories in Week 2. St. Thomas More continued to impress, overpowering Acadiana with a resounding 61-38 victory. Head coach Hunter Landry’s debut game was nothing short of spectacular, leaving fans eager to see what the Knights have in store for the rest of the season.

Class 3A Shakeup Class 3A experienced a bit of turbulence in Week 2, with five of the top six teams stumbling in their season openers. However, it’s worth noting that three of these losses came at the hands of formidable Class 5A opponents. This unexpected twist has shaken up the rankings and injected an element of unpredictability into the race for the top spot.

Newman’s Rise in Class 2A In Class 2A, Newman made a significant leap to the No. 4 spot following a statement win over Class 5A powerhouse Hahnville. While they soared up the rankings, several Top-10 teams faced adversity in their season openers, resulting in a reshuffling of the standings. This allowed rising teams like Loreauville and Rosepine to make their presence felt in the polls, proving that in high school football, anything can happen.

Little Change In Class 1A: Homer, Logansport and Opelousas Catholic dropped their games while No. 1 Ouachita Christian defeated Texas prep champion Dallas Christian, 17-14, to remain in the top spot. With the shakeup, Central Catholic and Ascension Catholic entered the poll for the first time this season.
