BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has expressed its commitment to a safe return of high school athletics this fall.
Executive Director Eddie Bonine released a memo to LHSAA member schools stating that “now, more than ever, we are reminded that our communities need high school sports.”
The statement comes just a few days removed from a controversial letter sent by Louisiana state senator Cleo Fields to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. In his letter, Fields requested to the board that high school sports be canceled for the Fall semester.
In the memo sent out to school officials and coaches, Bonine was adamant in saying that interscholastic competition supports the physical, emotional and well-being of student-athletes across Louisiana.
Bonine also encouraged schools in the memo to follow the LHSAA Sports Medicine Advisory committee guidelines to ensure safety of all involved in high school athletic competition.
