LAKE CHARLES – In the wake of leading his program to its best season in school history, St. Martin’s Frank Gendusa has been named the GeauxPreps.com Coach of the Year Presented By Chevyland for Class 1A.

The award, which is handed out following the completion of each year’s state football championships, recognizes worthy program leaders from each classification combined with both non-select and select programs across the state.

Gendusa, a coaching legend in the New Orleans area, returned to coaching in 2018 at the helm of the Saints program with a mission of becoming one of the state’s most respected programs. The program accomplished that feat in 2022 with one of the best turnaround stories with an 11-2 overall mark after finishing with only three wins a year ago.

If that wasn’t enough, Gendusa led St. Martin’s to the state semifinals for the first time in school history, its best postseason since the mid-1970s. In addition, fans were treated to one of the most talented running backs in the country as sophomore Harlem Berry finished with over 2,000 rushing yards for a second consecutive season.
