The Ultimate Show Of Sportsmanship

Despite a dominating victory on the field it was what occurred in the stands that stood out to those who attended the game between West Monroe and out-of-state foe RePublic Charter from Tennessee.

In hopes of finding someone to play Friday night, the Rebels searched far and wide and finally found the newly-found program that was willing to make the trip to northeast Louisiana for a football game.

However, RePublic traveled in small numbers and was subject to play in front of an empty visitor’s stand.

It was the West Monroe student section that noticed there was no support for the opposition and decided to spring into action. The school’s most spirited group of students made their way over to RePublic’s side of the field and began to cheer on their counterparts in an ultimate display of sportsmanship.

RePublic may not have won on the field but they attracted some of the biggest cheers Friday night from their side of the field and virtually became honorary members of the Rebel football family.

Streaks Are Made To Be Broken… And Continued!

It had been 644 days since Zachary High School lost a high school football game. The Broncos entered Friday’s contest riding an 18-game win streak, winning a Class 5A state title during that span.

However, it was the resilient effort from a talented St. Augustine squad that forced Zachary’s streak to come to an end following a 24-20 loss.

With St. Charles Catholic losing to Teurlings Catholic on Friday, snapping a 13-game win streak, the longest streak now belongs to Westgate, with 11 consecutive victories.

It was also a night to remember for several programs who have struggled through the last few seasons as North Central snapped the state’s longest losing streak (29) in a 54-6 win over Thrive Academy. Central Lafourche also snapped its 21-game losing skid with a thrilling victory over rival South Lafourche.
