University Lab Leads Talented Field In GeauxPreps 2022 Class 3A Preseason Rankings

University Lab claimed its third championship in five years with a Division II title win over E.D. White last season and has no plans to slow down as the Cubs were selected No. 1 in the GeauxPreps.com 2022 Class 3A Preseason Rankings presented by Chevyland.
University’s high-powered offense will be in good hands with the return of senior QB Blake Abney (1,974 yards, 24 TDs) who engineered a perfect season in 2021 while Notre Dame commit Jaiden Ausberry (94 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 INT) leads the defensive unit in helping to develop a new crop of starters. Ausberry will team up with junior Harry Beacham (143 total tackles, 7 sacks, 3 INT) to navigate the backfield while Darrius Vessel is expected to play a massive role in the trenches.
The No. 1 selection begins its season on September 2 on the road against a talented, Marcus Randell-coached Woodlawn squad out of Baton Rouge. Defending Class 3A champion Sterlington comes in at the No. 2 spot followed by last year’s runner-up Union Parish at No. 3. Madison Prep and Lake Charles Prep round out the top five.
