Recruit Spotlight: Lake Charles Prep’s Dillon Simon

By Hunter Bower // GeauxPreps.com Owner

We continue our recruiting spotlight for football where we take a look at Lake Charles College Prep’s Dillon Simon. Simon is a senior dual-threat quarterback from Lake Charles who stands at 5’10 and weighs 170 pounds.

Simon returns at the QB position after having passed for over 2,500 yards and 24 touchdowns last season with just three interceptions in 2019. The South Alabama commit helped the Trailblazers lock up their second consecutive district title, its first in Class 3A, last season while also having defeated Class 5A foes Natchitoches Central and Sulphur.

Simon, a three-star athlete, has lettered in both football and track and field (100 meters, 200 meters, long jump) during his time at LCCP.

The senior QB received numerous offers from Division I schools across the nation including Miami (FL), Army, Grambling, Prairie View A&M and Lamar. He eventually committed to play at South Alabama.

GeauxPreps.com caught up with Simon for a Q&A session asking about the recruiting process, his goals for 2020, biggest influences and more!

How was the recruitment process during the COVID-19 pandemic?

My recruiting process during COVID-19 was different because of not being able to go to camp. However, I made videos of me throwing and doing drills that college coaches wanted to see me do and sent it out to the ones that were recruiting me.

What about South Alabama’s football program appealed to you when deciding where to commit?

The first thing that appealed to me was giving me a shot at playing QB at the next level. Another reason is that it was just like a family which I really loved seeing and it helped me make my decision.

How has your workout schedule changed during the COVID-19 outbreak?

My workout schedule actually was a lot better because I had more time than I ever had to work on and get better at things that needed improvement.

What did you focus on most during summer drills?

I focused on ball placement a lot because I know doing that can help me a whole lot now and later in life. I also have been working on timing with my WRs so that we all can be more effective on the field and know our roles on the offense.

What are your personal goals for the 2020 football season? How will accomplishing these goals help the overall team goals?

First I want to be a stronger leader for my team and make sure everyone is on the same page on offense and defense and always going 500% no matter what. Doing this can help my team become closer and learn to play for their brother who is their teammate and do their jobs. By doing this, it helps us score points and make stops of the defensive side of the ball.

Lake Charles Prep has a chance to make some noise this year. What is the best way to describe your team if talking to a stranger?

We have some of the best coaches you could ever ask for and some of the best players in the area. My brothers on both sides know that whether you are playing or not we don’t take anything lightly. It’s a brotherhood I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Who are some of your biggest influences both on the field and in everyday life?

My number one influence is my father. No matter if he is sick, sore, or hurting, he will make sure I have everything I need to perform the right way in everyday life. My coaches are also a big influence cause they could be anywhere they want but they are at practice everyday no matter what helping us and making us a better man for football and after football. My team is also a big one also because they are ready to learn and put that work in everyday rain, sleet, or snow.

How would you describe your game and also how would you describe your mentality on and off the field?

If I could describe my game I would say I can throw the ball just as well as I can run so don’t think I can’t do both. On and off the field I carry myself the right way because I know they have people looking up to me or want to see what I do in certain situations. I just lead by example the best way I can and help others if possible.

What is one thing that most people don’t know about you?

I like to help others no matter what if it is possible for me to do and if I can’t I’ll find someone who can.
